Why saved Reddit videos are often silent
Reddit stores the picture and the sound of a video as two separate files. Simple downloaders only grab the video, so the result has no audio. BestDownloader downloads both streams and merges them – the MP4 you get plays with sound, like in the app.
- Videos hosted on Reddit (v.redd.it) – MP4 with sound
- GIFs – real GIF posts as the original file, video loops as MP4 or converted to GIF (Reddit GIF downloader)
- Images – the original picture from i.redd.it
- MP3 – only the sound of a video
What does not work
- Posts that only link to another website (for example a YouTube link) – there is nothing on Reddit to download.
- Private or quarantined subreddits and posts that need a login.
- Image galleries with several pictures – paste the link of a single post with one video or image.
Please respect the rights of the people who made the video and credit them when you share it. See the Terms of Use.

Frequently asked questions
How do I download a Reddit video with sound?
Copy the link of the post, paste it into BestDownloader and tap Download. Video and audio are merged into one MP4 automatically.
Why is my Reddit video silent after downloading elsewhere?
Reddit keeps video and audio in separate files. Tools that fetch only the video stream produce a silent clip – BestDownloader merges both.
Does it work with redd.it and old.reddit.com links?
Yes. Links from reddit.com, old.reddit.com, mobile links and redd.it short links are supported.
Can I download Reddit GIFs and images?
Yes. A GIF post is saved as the original .gif file, a video loop as MP4 or – for clips up to 30 seconds – converted to GIF, and image posts as the original picture. See the Reddit GIF downloader.
Is a login needed?
No. Public posts work without any account. Private communities and quarantined posts cannot be downloaded.
